About North Carolina

North Carolina is a state celebrated for its diverse geography, ranging from the sandy shores of the Atlantic coast to the majestic Appalachian Mountains. Its rich history and vibrant culture make it a unique and wonderful place to live.

  • Blue Ridge Parkway: This scenic drive offers breathtaking views of the Appalachian Highlands, connecting Shenandoah National Park to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
  • Biltmore Estate: Located in Asheville, this is America's largest privately-owned home, a stunning example of Gilded Age architecture set on a vast, beautiful estate.
  • Outer Banks: These barrier islands are famous for their beautiful lighthouses, wild horses, and the site of the Wright brothers' first flight in Kitty Hawk.

Frequently Asked Questions About Our Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy Practice

Where are your services located?

MarvelMyo & Speech is a fully virtual practice. We offer all our therapy services via teletherapy, which means we can serve patients throughout the entire United States, including anywhere in North Carolina. You can access our expert care from your home, work, or wherever is most convenient for you.

What ages do you work with?

Our therapists are experienced in working with patients of all ages. We provide specialized care for everyone, from infants and toddlers in our MyoMunchkins program (birth to 3 years) to children, teenagers, and adults facing a variety of speech and orofacial myofunctional challenges.

What can cause speech or orofacial myofunctional problems?

There is no single cause for speech, language, or orofacial myofunctional issues, and it is never your fault. These challenges can arise from various factors, such as frequent ear infections in childhood, a compromised airway due to sinus issues or allergies, or improper tongue resting posture. Sometimes, they can be a symptom of a larger, underlying condition. Our goal is to identify the root cause and create a supportive plan for you.

How do I know if my child has a speech-language delay?

You might notice a speech-language delay if your child isn't communicating as much as other children their age. Key milestones to watch for include not saying simple words by 12-15 months, not understanding simple commands like "no" by 18 months, or not speaking in short sentences by age 3. For older children, persistent trouble with sounds like /s/ or /r/ after intervention could indicate an orofacial myofunctional component that we can help address.

Do you accept insurance?

Yes, we do. We are in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield, Medicare, and Aetna (currently for Texas residents only). For patients with other insurance providers, we are happy to help you file for out-of-network reimbursement. We recommend contacting your insurance company to inquire about your out-of-network benefits for speech therapy before your first evaluation. Our team is always here to answer any questions you have about payment and coverage.
